In July 2013, Mercedes Benz has finally broken a long spell by taking the numero uno spot in the luxury cars market in terms of sales. Mercedes has overtaken Audi as the most sold car last month, reaching the top spot after three long years.
About 810 units of the car were sold in July, largely owing to the launch of new products such as the A-Class and B-Class compact models. Meanwhile, Audi sold 705 units in the month. While, Mercedes has overtaken Audi in July, Audi remains the top selling car overall.
Taking third position is BMW, which lost some of its dominance in the market with Audi giving strong competition. July sales for Mercedes Benz increased by 53% and Audi saw a 4% rise. However, BMW officials remained tight lipped over its sales figures.
Mercedes Benz India MD Eberhard Kern told Times of India that the company will continue to introduce new products to sustain its lead. "We are not surprised by our strong performance. The product offensive that we initiated in 2013 is just the beginning of a range of unique initiatives," he said.
