Volvo plans big in India

Volvo Auto India is planning to get big in India and has a target of selling at least 200 of their cars in India.

With such high hopes, Volvo has plans to introduce four new cars which will add to the list of SUVs and Sedans in the nation from the Swedish stable. Two of the newer cars are expected to be SUV's and the other two would join the likes of S60, S70.

Volvo is well known for its cars that are up of Rs 35 lakhs per a car in the luxury segment. Volvo cars MD, Tomas Ernberg thinks of Bangalore as their key market that would define their presence in India and hence their success in the nation. "After successful presence in other regions in India, we plan to consolidate our presence in Bangalore by opening a 7,000 square feet showroom here", he added.

Volvo has a fraction of the market share in luxury car segment which is largely dominated by the likes of BMW, Audi, Porsche, Jaguar being key players. Volvo is targeting the right place for their sales development since there were almost 2,000 luxury car sales last year alone. The figure is expected to increase to 2500 this year and Volvo plans to be an essential part of it.

Though the company has sold only 821 cars last year, Ernberg realizes that the potential of India in their sales is immense.
