Nowadays many people are easily prone to lifestyle diseases like diabetes, obesity and hypertension. Our eating habits and lifestyle could be the main reasons for it. To control or reverse it there are many natural remedies and recently capsicum has been added to that list.
The scientists at the CSIR- Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) proved that, yellow and red bell peppers slowed down the digestion of carbohydrates and lipids which in turn helps in controlling the diabetes and obesity.
It was found that yellow capsicum inhibited the activity of two digestive enzymes such as alpha-glucosidase and lipase as compared to green capsicum. Lead author and Senior Principal Scientist, Dr. Ashok Kumar Tiwari explained that the concentration of lipids and blood sugar is reduced once digestion of carbohydrates and lipids is slowed down, and hence it would cut the chance of developing hyperglycaemia and hyperlipidemia. Even the yellow bell peppers are more effective due to the presence of oligomerised anthocyanins. They were better inhibitors than pro-anthocyanins found in green capsicum.
So experts suggest eating a cup of capsicum salad before the main course to keep your diabetics and obesity in control.
