SMS can save you from Skin Cancer

A new study has revealed that SMS can save your life by improving skin cancer prevention and promote sun protection. The researchers of Cancer Council Queensland and University of Queensland, have conducted this study for a period of 12 months on 500 participants aged from 18 to 42 years. They tested the impact and value of text message delivered promoting sun project along with skin self-examination as the recipients wear sunscreen, sun smart clothing and limit their time in Sun from 10 AM to 4 PM.

By the end of 12 month trail, the result showed a significant improved in self-reported sun protection habits. The proportion increased from 37 per cent to 63 per cent  which showed SMS have a major impact. The researchers added that a database can be set up in the future for people to receive SMS which will trigger to greater sun protection awareness and help in prevention of skin cancer. This study was published in International Journal 'Preventative Medicine.'
