Indian origin 14-yr-old wins National Geographic Bee

Fourteen-year-old Rahul Nagvekar from Quail Valley Middle School in Texas won the prestigious National Geographic Bee that gave $25,000 college scholarship besides a trip to Galapogos Islands. Rahul, who is of India origin, has said that the answer to the last question, which made him the become the winner was actually a guess.

Taking about the success, Navekar’s mother Urmila has said that she trained her son by doing extensive research with the help of her husband. National Geographic Bee questioned 10 finalists on various topics under the sky including history, cultures and even climates. The show, however, emphasized more on the geography.

The questions were undoubtedly tough. For instance, a Google image was zoomed in and the candidates were asked to locate the place. Many such typical questions tested the geographical quotient of the candidates.
