Recipe: Jonna Upma:- Jonna Upma or Jowar or Sorghum Millet Upma is quite tasty and nutritious and is also healthy. It is ideal for breakfast or dinner. Sorghum is an alternative for many food products and it is vegan, gluten-free. Several food items like porridge, upma, pulao, roti, dosa, pongal and idli can be made with it. Jonna Upma can be made quite easily at home and it is even available in supermarkets. The consumption of sorghum also brings several health benefits. Upma is commonly taken for breakfast in South India. It comes with various seasonings and preferences. Upma can be made with tomato, vegetables, millets and others.

Jonna Upma or Sorghum upma is nutritious and can help you in weight loss, improves blood circulation and bone health. It also controls the sugar levels. Here is the preparation of Jonna Upma:

Ingredients:

* Sorghum semolina: 1 cup
* Ghee: 1 tablespoon (Oil can also be used)
* Cashews: As needed (optional)
* Bengal gram dal: 1 teaspoon
* Black gram dal: 1 teaspoon
* Mustard seeds: 1/2 a teaspoon
* Cumin seeds: 1/2 a teaspoon
* Ginger: 1/2 a teaspoon finely chopped
* Green chilies: 2 to 3 slit
* Onion: 1 cut into long pieces
* Curry leaves: Reeds
* Carrot: 1 finely chopped
* Green peas: As needed
* Tomato: 1 diced
* Water : 3 cups
* Salt: 3/4 teaspoon
* Coriander leaves: A few strands finely chopped
* Lemon juice: A squeeze if wish to

Preparation:

Add a tablespoon of ghee to a heated pan. Add cashews, roast them and place them aside. Sorghum can be roasted. Add Bengal Gram and Black Gram Dal in oil until their colour is changed. Add half teaspoon of mustard and cumin seeds, peanut seeds. Add half a teaspoon of chopped ginger, slit green chillies and chopped onions. Also add some curry leaves. Also add finely chopped carrot and green peas.

Add three cups of water and add three fourth teaspoon of salt. Add Sorghum Semolina and cook it on low flame. Leave it for three minutes and add coriander leaves. Add ghee and roasted cashews, cook it for a while and place the lid on low flame. Leave it for a while and Squeeze some lemon on it. Serve it hot.
