Integrated Solar Roofs Unveiled By Hyd-Based Visakha Industries:- Hyderabad-based Visakha Industries have unveiled an integrated solar roofing system under the name “Atum”.

The new launch is an extension of its fiber cement boards, which it has been making for many years. In-house research and development on this has been done by the company, which is looking at some patents. The panels on a large scale will be made in about three months at its Miryalaguda plant, said its chief business strategist Vamsi Gaddam.

The solar roofing system will have a manufacturing capacity of 60 MW. It is estimated to cost around Rs 10 crore for the project. The panels will be on the 12 mm cement boards. “Many are going for roof top solar units. Atum units will be cost effective and more efficient compared to the metal roofs as it has a cement base,” he said. The pay back for the entire roof is about four year and per sqft of the panel costs Rs 700, added Mr. Vamsi.

It is getting the solar panels and others from China and other markets. The focus will be on industrial and factories and later it will also foray into the residential segment as it requires a different design. The focus markets will be south India, particularly Tamil Nadu, which has a high density of factories and industrial units. The products will be available through its dealers. It will look to tie-up with EPC players and inverter makers.

The company also plans to get auto-cleaning panels too, which will not need additional maintenance.

Visaka Vice-Chairman G Vivekanand said the company is seeing good demand for its V-Next cement fiber boards. Currently, it has 1,20,000 tonne capacity and is operating at 70% capacity. The company is planning to add another 50,000 tonne. This plant is likely to come up in Haryana.

One more will be in the eastern region and the plant is likely to be in Bengal. One more plant for Atum will be set up later. All these are likely to see an investment of Rs 100-110 crore and will take about two years.

Additionally, designs to make 2BHKs within Rs 5.3 lakh using V-board have been proposed by the company. It has made presentations to Telangana, Maharashtra and Delhi.
