Rupee dives into deeper trouble

In what can be dubbed as another "downfall" for the rupee, it's value plummeted by a massive 97 paise, breaching the 61-mark to hit 61.19, as heavy demand for the American dollar continued to surge up overseas.

The rising demand for the American currency exerted pressure on the domestic currency, tumbling down its worth further, Forex analysts said.

The value of rupee dipped by nine paise to 60.22 on Friday. The fresh slide in rupee has triggered a steep rise in crude oil prices that gushed by $100 in the overseas markets.
