Namma Metro earns Rs.7 Crores in 6 months

Namma Metro-the Bangalore Metro Rail has completed six moths’ of operations in the city community as many as 49.95 lakh passengers between MG Road (city’s popular shopping stretch) and Baiyappanahalli (a residential area which is at the other corner of the city). On commemorating six months’ of successful operations, the Bangalore Metrol Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has said that the corporation has earned as much as seven crore rupees.

It may be recalled that the first stretch of Namma Metro was launched on a grand note on October 20, 2011.  The launch of this stretch has evoked good response from the public as a large number of people travel from KR Puram and surrounding areas to M.G road and surrounding areas daily.  The construction of fly-over bridge in K R Puram a few years ago couldn’t solve the increasing traffic blues and thanks to Namma Metro as it was successful in erasing the problems caused to employees due to frequent traffic jams on this stretch.

On the other hand, the Karnataka High Court turned down a petition questioning the land acquisition for soap factory station on the northern line of the metro rail corporation. The work on the northern line would, therefore, commence on May 10. Also, the Chickpet underground station works would speed up as court cancelled another such petition that questioned the land acquisition.

Meanwhile, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited has invited the commuters on MG Road-Baiyapanahalli stretch to send in their suggestions and recommendations to the email address mentioned on their website. (Phani)
