Online Lottery Scam: Bengaluru Couple Cheated For Three Years:- A Bengaluru couple who have been highly educated fell prey to an online lottery scam and the surprising thing is that they have been paying them for the prize money from the past three years. This left many in surprise and the couple is said to have invested all their savings there after which they realized that it’s fake. A retired agricultural scientist with the GKVK University of Agricultural Sciences (name not revealed as he passed away) fell prey to an online quiz program in 2014. He has been reported to won Rs 5 crore prize money in the quiz.
To claim his prize money, he started paying huge sums of money and he passed away the same year in December. The biggest surprise comes here as his wife continued to make payments from her savings for the prize money. She continued doing this till the mid of 2017 and one can assume how much money she has sent. The cops revealed that this is the biggest ever online scam in the city and this is highest a family lost.
The wife of the deceased scientist approached the Cyber Crime Police Station after which a complaint has been registered. She explained about the scam and the amounts she transferred with the bank statements produced before the cops. She even revealed that the scamster promised her that he would come to Bengaluru to deliver the amount as it is huge and asked her to deposit Rs 6.5 lakhs. She said that her husband even pledged his life insurance policy on loans along with all the money saved in his life.
After the scientist had passed away, a call came through his cellphone and his wife picked up. This was how she got to know about this and she continued sending amount. She named him Howard Jerry and she filed a complaint on July 11th. An investigation is on and the cops are quite keen on nabbing the culprit based on the bank accounts and phone calls.
