Russia to ban Instagram from March 14th

Russia to ban Instagram from March 14th:- Russia announced a ban on Facebook a week ago and Roskomnadzor, the communication agency of Russia announced that it would ban Instagram. There is lot of criticism that the ban of Facebook was named as discrimination against the Russian media. The Russian government claims that they took the call by the parent company Meta. Adam Mosseri, the Head of Instagram tweeted "This decision will cut 80 million in Russia off from one another, and from the rest of the world as ~80% of people in Russia follow an Instagram account outside their country. This is wrong". Roskomnadzor announced that they decided to impose the restrictions on the access to Instagram from March 14th and the users will be given an additional 48 hours of transition period.

The decision of ban came after few days after Meta announced its plan for Instagram to label the media outlets. For now, Meta announced that there would be no ban on platform WhatsApp. The spokesperson of Meta issued a statement saying "As a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine we have temporarily made allowances for forms of political expression that would normally violate our rules like violent speech such as ‘death to the Russian invaders.’ We still won’t allow credible calls for violence against Russian civilians". Roskomnadzor blames Meta for directing the moderators to allow the posts that triggered violence on Russia.
