Mehul Choksi's bail plea rejected in Dominica

Mehul Choksi's bail plea rejected in Dominica:- Fugitive businessman Mehul Choksi received a shock in the Dominica High Court after the top court rejected bail. The Dominica High Court said that Mehul Choksi has no ties with Dominica and the court cannot believe that he could stay without absconding. Mehul Choksi proposed that he would stay in a hotel with his brother and he has no fixed address. The trial of Mehul Choksi is yet to start and the conclusions of the submissions are made from both the sides. Mehul Choksi could not offer a strong surety told the court. As the bail is rejected, Mehul Choksi will have a relief as he cannot fly to India as per the process of extradition.

Mehul Choksi's Counsel argued on medical grounds and not at flight risk. Dominica Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit termed Choksi as an Indian citizen and left the decision to be taken by the court. Mehul Choksi was missing on May 23rd from Antigua and he was charged of illegally entering into Dominica to evade extradition to India. Mehul Choksi is one of the most wanted in Rs 13,500 crore Punjab National Bank scam. There are reports that Mehul Choksi wanted to escape to Cuba but he landed in Dominica. Mehul Choksi's brother sent a legal notice to Associate Times, a Caribbean-based outlet after it published an article named fake, unsubstantiated, false and with unverified facts. The Indian government is trying hard to extradite Mehul Choksi back to the country. His nephew Nirav Modi is facing the trial in the UK Court.
