Vizag's Rushikonda Beach Selected Under BEAMS:- Prakash Javadekar, the Union Minister for Environment revealed the famous Rushikonda Beach of Vizag has been selected under Beach Environment and Aesthetics Management Services (BEAMS) that is initiated by the Centre. 13 Indian beaches are selected by the Centre as per the International standards. All these selected beaches will be eco-friendly for the tourists to preserve the coastal environment. Rushikonda beach is the only beach selected for BEAMS from the Telugu states.
BEAMS will set-up eco-friendly bio-toilets across the beaches along with refined drinking water, pathways, sitting facilities, wooden chairs along with umbrellas, first aid station, beach parking and other facilities will be set up. A Solar power plant along with a waste management plant and tight security services through surveillance cameras will be set. Special guards will be monitoring the complete beach and lifeguards will be available with watchtowers soon. In a course of five years, the Centre is in plans to extend these facilities to 100 beaches in India.
