Death for Nirbhaya Convict: Supreme Court Confirms:- Four men have been proved convicted in 2012 gang-rape of Nirbhaya which shook the nation. The four convicted are one step closer to get hanged. The Supreme Court today dismissed the last review petition that is filed by one of the convicts in the case. The court confirmed the death sentence of the convict Akshay Thakur Singh along with the other convicts in the case. "Review petition is not re-hearing of the appeal over and over again," a three-judge bench said. Akshay Singh had questioned the dying declaration of the woman - known to the world as "Nirbhaya" or fearless.

AP Singh, Akshay Singh's lawyer argued in the case and after the verdict is out he commented that there was huge pressure from the public and media. "We can't go by views of any author. We can't go into all this now. This will set a dangerous trend if people start writing books after the trial is over and talk about such things," told the Supreme Court. Akshay Singh's lawyer also said a CBI inquiry was never carried out in the case. The review petitions of the other convicts have been dismissed earlier. 23-year-old Nirbhaya who was a paramedic student was gang-raped and then tortured with an iron rod on December 16th, 2012 in a moving bus.
