MEIL Set To Accomplish Polavaram Project In 2 Years:- Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Limited (MEIL) is all geared up and ready to complete the Polavaram project in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh within 2 years time. The company officials have already performed the ground breaking ceremony on November, 01st, 2019. The work is set to be kickstarted from Saturday itself.

The high court recently lifted the stay on the construction of the project on Thursday and MEIL is all set to include all of the available resources to complete this prestigious national project within 2 years goal. The company has prior experience of completing their projects on the specific time frame, so they are hopeful that the same will be easy this time around too.

One of the notable projects completed by MEIL includes the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme which was done in Telangana within a record time. The AP government has entered into an agreement with MEIL, asking them to wrap up the complete project within 2 years time. Chief Minister Y S Jaganmohan Reddy was very particular that the project is executed on time like some of the prior projects handled by them.

The company has recalled how several projects were cancelled by the Chief Minister because of the kind of pace they were progressing in.

An official further addressed the situation saying, “He is ambitious about completing the project which is intended to stabilised the ayacut and water supply for two crops in a year.”

The bhoomi puja of the construction site was conducted by Satish, DGM, MEIL at Spillway block No.18. Some of the other personalities present at the puja included State water resources department executive engineer Yesubabu, executive engineers Shekhar Babu, Mallikarjun, Sudhakar Babu, Pandurangaiah and Deputy engineers Rameshwara Naidu, Balakrishna, Laxman, Yashodhara Rao, Srinivas, Shiva Shankar.

As mentioned before, the work on this project is set to quick start from November 02nd, 2019.

Following cancellation of the prior contracts for the Polavaram project, the Chief Minister of AP opted for reverse tendering for the project. MEIL stepped into the picture providing with a 12.6% lower bid amount to Rs. 4,358 crore. This saved a total of Rs. 628 crore for the government. The state government did invite a bid of Rs. 4,987 crore and MEIL was the only organization taking part in the reverse bid.

The Polavaram project is one of the most crucial for the state as it is expected to provide with direct irrigation supply for 7.2 lakh acres of land along with the generation of 960 megawatts of hydropower and lift 80TMC of water to the Prakasam Barrage on Krishna river.

In addition to that, the successful completion of this project is believed to solve the crisis of drinking water in 540 villages across AP and the areas adjacent to the Polavaram project. MEIL has started with the necessary survey, along with the mobilization of the resources to further streamline the process even more so.
