Kerala Floods: 67 Killed And 33 Dams Opened:- For the first time in the history of Kerala, the gates of 33 dams have been opened after heavy rains lashed the state. The gates of Mullaperiyar Dam which is 123-year-old have been opened for the first time in the history. As many as 67 people lost their lives because of the floods and landslides that took place due to the heavy rains in the state. Several districts have been left with water and a red alert has been issued across the state.

Kerala State Disaster Management Authority chairman and Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue) PH Kurien called the situation quite alarming. He said that the situations will even turn worse if the rains continue to lash the state in the coming days. Cochin International Airport suspended operations and several bus services to Kerala have been cancelled. Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan explained the situation to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami. Vijayan also requested Narendra Modi to cooperate with the Kerala authorities.
