Congress Members Stages Walkout In Telangana Legislative Council: Demanding constitution of a House Committee to probe the alleged atrocities against dalits in the State, the Congress members in the Legislative Council staged a walk-out on Monday.

The opposition leaders were dissatisfied with the reply given by Home Minister Nayani Narsimha Reddy during question hour. They wanted to know why any FIR had not been registered by the government against the Rajanna-Siricilla District Superintendent for allegedly targeting dalits during the Nerella incident.

False information is being provided by the government on the number of cases registered against dalits in the State, alleged the leader of the Opposition Mohammed Ali Shabbir. Before staging a walk-out along with party members, Ali said, “Under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, the DGP office said that around 4,000 cases were registered against dalits since 2014, but the Home Minister today said no cases have been registered so far, which is nothing but misleading the House.”

The government was committed to the welfare of dalits and was implementing scores of programmes for their uplift, said the Home Minister later. However, false propaganda to derive political mileage out of the incident, is being resorted by the Congress, he said.
