Heavy Security Covered Across Delhi till Republic Day

On the eve of Republic day, Delhi police have arranged for heavy security till Thursday evening for Republic Day celebrations. A multi-layered security has been in place for the movement of vehicles. Police have been even asked to be alert about all suspicious activities.

Sources said that "the traffic police and other officers on security duty have been asked to keep an eye on movements of heavy vehicles due to terror threats. Vigil has been enhanced at check posts near marketplaces and crowded locations. Restriction on the entry of heavy vehicles would also be imposed. More than 200 cameras have been installed on the route."

Republic Day Preparations

"We have requested people who have installed CCTVs at their shops and houses to keep them in good condition. We have also installed cameras along the parade route to monitor movements," said special CP, Mukesh Meena (New Delhi range).

More than 60,000 security men have been deployed including Delhi Police, CAPFs and NSG commandos from Sunday night.

Snipers and spotters along with troopers from the Signals Regiment of Indian Army will also be posted around Rajpath in order to monitor vehicles and visitors movement.

Republic Day Preparations

Delhi Police SWAT commandos would also be placed on the parade route till Red Fort in order to scan for any suspicious movements. Indian Army has also positioned quick reaction teams (QRTs) across Delhi to respond to emergencies.

Indian Air Force has trained police team to track and spot all mysterious flying objects and alert IAF personnel who would be stationed with air defence weapons.
