India's richest man Mukesh Ambani's son Akash Ambani joined the Reliance Industries Ltd [RIL] earlier this month according to the sources. The 22 year old Akash completed undergraduate studies at Brown University in the US, returned to India last year to intern in the family business. Akash is currently looking at the 4G telecom project of the Reliance which the company took very seriously.
Akash Ambani is also taking party in the meetings along with his dad Mukesh so as to get idea while taking key decisions from the members of Board and Mukesh feels that it is best education for him to work in a team. Mukesh's father Dhirubhai Ambani also guided him in the same manner when he joined the company in the year 1981 at 24 years. Manoj Modi, engineering college friend of Mukesh has been mentoring Akash since very long time.
In fact it was Mukesh who suggested Akash to get into telecom business as it is a combination of innovation and aspirations. Accordingly Mukesh bid around Rs 11,000 crore for spectrum in auctions that ended last week. Akash was also seen in the IPL auction last week along with his mom. As cricket is his favorite game, Akash is set to lead telecom and IPL Franchise team simultaneously. Akash is part of a venture that has grown rapidly from less than 700 professionals a year ago to over 3,000 employees. The Ambani Junior was seen quite frequently in Reliance Corporate Park [RCP] in Navi Mumbai these days where all RIL businesses meet and he seems to have set up his office there.
When contacted Reliance Industries regarding Akash's entry they were tight lipped and did not comment anything. Mukesh has reportedly said not to make any statement regarding Akash as it would put lot of pressure on right away. Mukesh also gave Akash an ideal platform to launch himself and to make a mark of himself as the first member of the third generation of a family that changed the nation's business.
Mukesh's daughter Isha, a graduate from Yale University, is likely to join the Reliance Foundation, which houses the group's schools and hospitals. Mukesh's younger son, Anant is pursuing higher studies in the US and still has lot of time to get into business.
