Planning a shop in Hyderabad, police license is must

Petty traders in the state capital woke up to a rude shock with notices served to them by the Police department. As per a GO (No.129), which was issued by the home ministry in 2005, all establishments must have an approval from the sleuths for running their business. Suddenly the awoken police have issued nearly 10,000 notices in the central zone alone. Other stations are following the suit, say sources.

And mind you it is not all that simple to obtain a police permit. The list of requirements include, NOC from the fire services department, a valid trade license from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), an NOC from the chief medical officer of health, GHMC, valid food license issued by GHMC, sanctioned plan of the building issued by the town planning wing, ownership documents like title deed, rental deed and parking lease, valid excise license, if applicable, and parking declaration on Rs 10 non judicial stamp paper. Subject to all this submission then wait for getting the green signal from the cops to start the business, no matter how small it is.

Well the reason for this sudden awakening is yet to be ascertained, but it is sure to create chaos in the small traders segment. From petty curry points to mighty textiles showrooms, a common rule will create big hurdle to the growth of the small trader segment, feel observers. (Wishesh AarKay)
