Osmania University, pride of Hyderabad

Travelling towards Tarnaka Junction from Ram Nagar if you are lucky, your transport will take you through the ancient Osmania University (OU) which was the epitome of Knowledge banks, times imemorial. But off course with due courtesy to our politicians the University has been in lime light for various other reasons. OU is known for providing excellent education in the field of Technology and Engineering. It is being accredited with National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and is the first university that offers courses in Indian Language including Urdu. OU established in 1918, is the seventh oldest university in India and the third oldest in south India.

With a sprawling campus of nearly 1600 acres and buildings of majestic beauty and architectural splendor, OU, is perhaps, the largest higher education system in the Country. It is a home to nearly 300,000 students pursuing their higher studies in its Campus, Constituent, Affiliated Colleges and District Centres. Its faculty and staff number nearly 5000.

Inspite of the political turmoil that embroiled over the last academic year, OU still seems to be the preferred destination for many global students. And to the surprise of many the number of foreign students flocking to the OU is expected to be higher than last year. OU has geared up well to receive the students from countries across the world by setting up 172-seater foreign students’ hostel on campus for students pursuing their post-graduate studies and Ph.D from OU and affiliated institutions. The facility will be inaugurated next month and is meant only for single male students.

Ironically, while our own students aspire to go west to pursue their dreams in education, there are many who drop down to Hyderabad for their dreams. As per stats OU attracts students from 80 developing countries say sources. Osmania University does bring fame to the twin cities. (With inputs from internet- AW AarKay)
