Chief of Defence Staff Bipin Rawat and his wife dies in a Chopper Crash:- In a tragic incident, Bipin Rawat, the Chief of Defence Staff along with his wife and 11 others got killed in a chopper crash near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu this afternoon. The Indian Air Force issued a statement and the preliminary investigation said that the accident took place due to the foggy conditions. One person survived and he is being treated in a private hospital in Ooty. "With deep regret, it has now been ascertained that Gen Bipin Rawat, Mrs Madhulika Rawat and 11 other persons on board have died in the unfortunate accident," told IAF in a statement. Bipin Rawat was on a visit to the Defence Services Staff College (DSSC) in Wellington to address the students and the faculty.

Group Captain Varun Singh SC, Directing Staff was the only person who survived after the accident. The Prime Minister-led Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) met immediately to discuss the situation. The bodies are noticed through the DNA tests that were conducted immediately. The crash took place at 2 PM and the helicopter Mi-17V5 crashed near to Coonoor. A probe was ordered in the incident. President Ramnath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh offered their condolences. Rajnath Singh rushed to the residence of Bipin Rawat in New Delhi after the crash. "My heart goes out to the families of those who lost their loved ones in this accident. Praying for the speedy recovery of Gp Capt Varun Singh, who is currently under treatment at the Military Hospital, Wellington," posted Rajnath Singh.
