National Green Tribunal Slaps Rs 243 Cr Fine On AP Government:- The National Green Tribunal (NGT) slapped a fine of Rs 243 crores on the government of Andhra Pradesh for violating the environmental clearances. The National Green Tribunal pronounced its judgment and uploaded the same yesterday saying that the Andhra Pradesh government violated the clearances that are related to the Polavaram project, Purushottapatnam project, Pattieseema project and Chintalapudi project. The preponement of the Purushottapatnam project will get Rs 24.5622 crores. The preponement of the Pattieseema project shall pay Rs 24.9 crores to National Green Tribunal. The AP government will also have to pay Rs 73.635 crores for the preponement of the Chintalapudi project. For the Polavaram project, National Green Tribunal will receive Rs 120.075 crores.

The National Green Tribunal also said that all the compensations have to be paid within three months with the APPCB. This is a major blow for the government of Andhra Pradesh which is left in a huge financial crisis. The National Green Tribunal said that the acts of Andhra Pradesh made substantial damage to the environment during the execution of the mentioned irrigation projects. The bench of the National Green Tribunal directed the Project Proponents to collect the compensation in three months. This amount will be utilized for the restoration of the environment under the supervision of an oversight committee of the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Central and AP Pollution Control Boards.
