Over 150 Feared dead in a Glacier Burst in Uttarakhand:- Tragedy strikes hard after a glacier burst that took place in a power project that is happening in Tapovan-Reni in Uttarakhand and 150 people are feared dead in this incident. Several people went missing and the rescue operations are currently going on. The glacier burst triggered flash floods in Chamoli region of the hilly state. Eight bodies have been recovered informed the state's Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat. 16 trapped people are rescued by the ITBP personnel. Several properties are washed due to the sudden floods in the region and the state government is yet to make an exact assessment about the tragedy. The glacier burst took place at 10:45 AM yesterday

Soon after the incident, the downstream regions and the nearby villages are alerted and vacated. The water reached the Srinagar dam and it is stable now. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief on the incident and announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakhs or the family of the deceased. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat announced a compensation of 4 lakhs for the next of kin. The glacier burst made the water levels rise in the river Rishiganga and the small hydro project of 13.2 MW near Raini village got washed away. The rescue operations came to a halt in the night and they resumed this morning.

Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF, Uttarkhand's State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel, Indian Army are taking care of the rescue operations. Over 180 sheep and goats are expected to be swept away in the floods. Four hydropower projects in the region are damaged and two bridges are washed away.
