AstraZeneca Vaccine Trials on Hold After an Unexpected Illness:- UK based pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca has been conducted trials for the developed coronavirus vaccine. The company is said to have voluntarily paused the clinical trials of the vaccine after a volunteer developed an illness that is unexplained. AstraZeneca has been working with the Oxford University to develop the drug and is the frontrunner in the global race for the vaccine across the world. AstraZeneca's spokesperson said their standard review process was triggered and they had to put the process on temporary hold as they are conducting a safety review by an independent committee.

AstraZeneca said that this is a routine course of action when there is an unexplained illness. AstraZeneca said that they will review the situation and the case independently. "We are working hard to minimize the potential impact on the trial," said the spokesperson. AstraZeneca is one of the nine companies that are conducting the third phase of clinical trials for the coronavirus vaccine. It has been enrolling close to 30,000 volunteers in the USA for the trials. AstraZeneca named the vaccine as AZD1222 and it has been developed to code for the spike protein which coronavirus uses to invade the cells. Once the human body takes the vaccination, this protein is produced in the human body and it protects the immune system even if the person gets attacked with coronavirus later.
