DMK Calls For A General Council Meet On August 28th:- With the demise of DMK Chief M Karunanidhi, the position of the Party Chief and President turned vacant. There have been wide speculations that the working President MK Stalin will be promoted to the position. The General Council Meeting has been scheduled to take place on August 28th. A press release has been issued from the headquarters that the meeting will be held as planned on the same day at 9 AM. The note also revealed that the agenda of the meet is all about the election of the President and the adoption of the audit report.

MK Stalin is the current Treasurer and if he moves to the position of the President, the position of Treasurer too should be filled. Right after the demise of Karunanidhi, Stalin's brother MK Alagiri revealed that all the true loyalists of DMK are on his side. Due to the anti-party activities, he was expelled from the party in 2014. However a source revealed that MK Stalin has a strong hold and Alagiri's comments cannot make much difference in the elevation of Stalin. Several senior DMK leaders revealed that MK Stalin would be their new President.
