Elphinstone Tragedy: 22 Dead and 50 Injured

Mumbai’s one of the busiest stations Elphinstone railway station turned out to be a place for tragedy today. Due to a mad rush because of heavy rains, 22 people were declared dead and over 50 got injured in a massive stampede during the wee hours of the day. Elphinstone railway station which stays occupied during the peak hours failed to manage the rush. The incident took place on the foot-over bridge which could not accommodate many.

The foot-over bridge was linking Elphinstone Road and Parel suburban railway stations. Due to a heave rain, people ran on to the foot-over bridge which and the stampede took place. The incident took place at 10.46 AM and the rescue operations are currently on. Minister for Railways Piyush Goyal will visit the spot who is on his visit to Mumbai. The injured people have been taken to the nearby hospital.
