RamNath Kovind Or Meira Kumar : Suspense Over The Next President Will End Today:- With the counting of votes to be completed by 5 pm, the name of the next President of India will be known today.
Lok Sabha Secretary General Anoop Mishra said, at around 11 a.m. the counting of polls will start and the first ballot box to be opened would be the one of Parliament House.
On an alphabetical basis, the ballot boxes received from states would be counted and on four separate tables the votes would be counted. There would be eight rounds of counting. By around 5 pm, the results would be declared, a senior official said.
For electing India’s next President, the voting close to 99% was recorded. In favor of the ruling coalition’s nominee Ram Nath Kovind over the Opposition’s candidate Meira Kumar, the numbers are stacked. In various states, thirty-two polling stations, including the one at Parliament House, were set up. To cast their ballot, a total of 4,896 voters - 4,120 MLAs and 776 elected MLAs were eligible. However, the MLCs of states with legislative council are not part of the electoral college.
The value of an MLA’s vote depends on the population of the state he or she belongs to, whereas the value of an MP’s vote remains the same at 708.
