Union Finance Minister To Sue Delhi CM, After CM’s Lawyer Calls Jaitley “A Crook”

Union Finance Minister To Sue Delhi CM, After CM’s Lawyer Calls Jaitley 'A Crook':- Under a second defamation case of Rs 10 crore, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley is set to sue Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, after being called a “crook” in court by the Delhi CM’s lawyer, Ram Jethmalani.

The fresh suit was filed today in the Delhi High Court after Jethmalani accused Jaitley of being “guilty of crimes and crookery” last week while questioning the minister in court. The court is likely to hear the case tomorrow.

The new case is only against Mr Kejriwal and will be separate from the ongoing defamation suit against the Delhi Chief Minister and five other Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders.

Amidst an ongoing tense round of cross-questioning between Jailtey and Jethmalani, earlier on Thursday, Jaitley was upset after being termed as a “crook” by the 93-year old veteran lawyer. When the Finance Minister asked if the slur had been sanctioned by the Chief Minister, Jethmalani clarified that the term was used under the instructions of Kejriwal. And now, Mr Jaitley said he would seek “aggravated damages.”

Jethmalani had said, “He (Arun Jaitley) is a crook and I will show this. To Mr Jaitley’s immediate objection, he added, “Let the court note that I am doing this with my client’s consent.”

Senior advocates Rajiv Nayar and Sandeep Sethi, who were representing Jaitley, alleged that the matter was transcribed as a duel between Jaitley and Jethmalani, rather than Jaitley and Kejriwal.

Earlier, Jaitley had filed a criminal defamation case against Kejriwal and five other AAP leaders for allegedly defaming him in the Patiala House Court. Kejriwal and the other five AAP leaders accused Jaitley of alleged irregularities and financial bungling in the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA). Jaitley was the President of DDCA for about 13 years until 2013.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sumit Dass framed defamation notice against Kejriwal and other AAP leaders. Meanwhile, Kejriwal and other AAP leaders have pleaded not guilty and claimed trial.
