Heavy Rainfall in Telangana, 28,000 Acres of Crops Damaged in Nizamabad District

As summer arrives, people have been facing a tough time due to high temperature. Bringing relief, the city witnessed thunderstorm on Thursday recording 4.5 mm of rain till 8.30 pm.

Rains and heavy winds have created huge havoc across Adilabad and Nizamabad districts. Over 28,000 acres of crops was destroyed due to huge rainfall in Nizamabad.

Crops like Maize, paddy, chilly and mango were damaged in Gadwala, and brick kilns were immersed. In Adilabad market yards, 12,000 quintals of a red gram were damaged. In farms crops like chilly and mango were also damaged.

Crops Damaged in Nizamabad District

Mancherial district witnessed fields of mango, maize, cotton and chilly being submerged. In Nizamabad district rain with hailstones continued for the second consecutive day.

Hailstorms were also seen in some areas of Kamareddy and Banswada. Due to which, power supply was interrupted at several areas after trees and electrical poles fell.

Around 10,000 acres of paddy, maize, turmeric and mango crops was damaged in Nizamabad and Armoor districts. The district's management informed the manual officials about the crop and house damage.

In Hyderabad, heavy rainfall was recorded in areas like Kukatpally, Serillingampally, A.S. Rao Nagar, Marredpally, Erragadda, Temple Alwal, Malkajgiri, Kondapur, Sanath Nagar, Begumpet, S.R. Nagar. This also resulted in huge traffic jams and power fluctuations too.

"The downpour in the city came as a complete surprise and home-bound traffic was thrown out of gear. Though it lasted for just half an hour, high winds accompanying the rain caused blackouts in many areas as transformers and power lines were disrupted. The weather conditions, including heavy rain, could repeat on March 17 too", the weather department said.
