100 Year Old Aashoorkhana Collapse Due to Heavy Rainfall

In a shocking incident, three halls, including one attached to the 100-year-old Aashoorkhana at Rein Bazar in Old City, collapsed due to heavy downpour on Thursday afternoon. The two other halls were used for residential purposes. However, there were no injuries although scores of people escaped unhurt, sources said.

The residential portion of the building complex was being used by women who vacated the place last night anticipating danger to their lives. One resident identified as Shaeen Begum, 55, and two others aged 20 and 38 reportedly took shelter in a neighbour’s house before the building collapsed, sources said.

‘Nobody was hurt in the incident but the personal belongings of the three inmates of the house including ‘panja’ (a religious object) revered by the shia community were buried under its debris. We immediately informed the Greater Hyderabad Municipal authorities to get them retrieved,” said Syed Hamid Hussain Jaffery, president of Shia Youth Conference, Hyderabad.

In fact, for around 70 women too there was a lucky escape as all of them said to have attended a prayer meeting at the other hall conducted to the Aashurkhana only last night that collapsed on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Met department recorded 25 mm rainfall in Sardar Mahal area in Charminar on Thursday.
