GHMC violence: Cases against Owaisi brothers

South Zone police booked a case against MIM party Assembly floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi for allegedly attacking a polling agent at Chandrayangutta. The incident took place, after hours of booking case against the party president Asaduddin Owaisi.

On the other side, MIM Malakpet legislator Ahmed Balala and his aides, who were arrested for allegedly attacking deputy Chief Minister Mohd. Mahmood Ali’s son Azam Ali, and MBT leader Amjadullah Khan, were granted the bail and released from the police custody, yesterday.

Senior officials instructed the South Zone police to take strict action against MIM workers, who had run amok in the last hours of GHMC polling.

Chandrayangutta police registered a case against Akbaruddin Owaisi and his men for allegedly attacking BJP polling agent Vijay Kumar, sources from South Zone officials said.

Jangampet BJP candidate K. Mahender had lodged a police complaint alleging that MIM activists led by Akbaruddin Owaisi had stopped and assaulted the polling agent. They had also allegedly snatched his cell phone.

“A case under various IPC sections for unlawful assembly, voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation has been booked against Akbaruddin and his aides,” said Chandrayangutta police station house officer, N. Rama Rao.

Earlier, Asaduddin Owaisi and two others were booked in a case by Mir Chowk police.

The case was registered under Sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint), 427 (mischief causing damage), and 506 read with 149 of the IPC.

Police booked Balala, based on two separate complaints from Azam Ali and Amjadullah Khan. Balala, who was in police custody overnight, secured bail by yesterday morning.

Charminar MLA Ahmed Pasha Quadri was detained as a preventive measure and released later. Police said that, the complaint filed against Quadri, by Congress candidate Ghouse was being inquired into.

Senior officials said they had collected evidence, including videos of the various attacks and special teams had been formed in South Zone to probe each case.

“We are investigating all the cases. Action will be taken based on the findings of these probes,” said Hyderabad police commissioner M. Mahender Reddy.
