2 trains collided and killed 31 in MP

A horrifying train accident in Madhya Pradesh took away 31 people and left 70 severely injured, when two trains derailed within minutes of each other while crossing a small bridge.  

Seven coaches of Kamayani Express and five bogies of Janata Express derailed while crossing a swollen Machak river near Harda late last night.

From Mumbai, the Kamayani Express, headed for Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh derailed near Harda town. A few minutes later, the Janata express, which is in Mumbai to Patna route, was on the same spot.

The death toll may rise - Rescue officials in Madhya Pradesh train accident

The officials who are engaged in the rescue operations, said that, the death toll may further rise, as a few of the locals over there said that, some persons are washed away   by the swollen waters of the Kalimachak river. More than 250 people were already rescued from the accident site and sent to the Itarsi railway station nearby.

“Among the 31 dead people, 10 are women and five are children,” Harda district public relations officer Vitthal Maheshwari said.

Railway Board chairman AK Mittal said, “a sudden flash flood might have resulted in the derailment of the two trains. Even before 10 minutes of the accident, the movement of trains had been absolutely normal.” 

Madhya Pradesh train accident : Rs.2 lakh ex-gratia to the dead victims' families

The railways announced Rs 2 lakh compensation to dead victims families and Rs 50,000 to the injured persons in the accident. Along with the railways, even Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced Rs 2 lakh compensation to family members of dead victims and Rs 50,000 for the seriously injured and Rs 25,000 for those who sustained with minor injuries. All the operations are being carried on for finding out the missing dead bodies if any.
