While Salman Khan’s hit-and-run case is very much in the limelight, Bollywood veteran and politician Hema Malini’s car driver has been arrested after the speeding Mercedes Benz hit a Maruti Alto in Rajasthan on Thursday evening. A four-year-old child was killed in the accident.
A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against Mahesh Thakur - BJP lawmaker’s driver, by the child’s father Harsh Khandelwal.
The family of four was in the Alto, while the father of the child was driving at the time of the accident. Mr. Khandelwal gave the report from Jaipur hospital, where he was getting treated for injuries to the legs, collar bone, and multiple fractures.
His other son - six years old, was rushed to Jaipur's Sawai Man Singh (SMS) hospital and is undergoing treatment in the ICU. The child has fractures in both legs.
"I was taking a turn on the Dausa bypass. There was a car ahead of my car which also passed through and suddenly I don't know from where this car came in and rammed us... after that I don't know what happened," Mr Khandelwal recounted.
A senior police officer from Dausa, where the accident took place about 60 km from state capital Jaipur, said on Thursday night, "I am being told the Mercedes was speeding. It drove over the divider." However, he also said the driver of the Alto may not have been paying attention while entering the section of the highway where the collision took place.
Actor-turned-politician Hema Malini, 66, had corrective surgery late last night for wounds on her face, especially the forehead. Photographs had showed the severely crumpled front end of her luxury car and the actor holding a bloodied handkerchief as her forehead bled.
Bollywood heartthrob Salman Khan was arrested and is sentenced to a five year jail term in his 2002 hit-and-run case.
