Section 8, an obvious need, AP DGP says

Director-General of Police J.V. Ramudu said that, “Section 8 of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act should be implemented for sure, and it is the need of the hour.”
 
On Tuesday, DGP attended the 29th Onshore Security Coordination Committee Meeting, AP region, is organized by the oil companies. Speaking to the meeting, DGP said that, the present circumstances demand the need of section 8 in the states.

The investigation is still taking place, it is too early to talk on it, said DGP, when he was asked about the progress of the cases filed against Telangana Chief Minister KCR on the phone tapping issue.

Police force is a single entity- DGP

When it comes to security, the police force is a single entity across the country and is bound by a pledge to protect the people. “It is only a matter of streamlining certain things. If required we would take their help and provide our services if they need,” DGP said, when he was questioned that whether Telangana or the AP police should provide security to the VVIPs of AP.

Protest week of Maoists is a publicity stunt

“The entire Andhra Odisha Border area (AOB) is under the control of the police and incidents such as the protest week declared by the Maoists in the area from July 1, are just publicity stunts,” DGP clarified. He further said that, “all the efforts are being made for the protection of women in the state and regarding this, we are developing the ‘She’ police team in AP.”

Security of installations

Officials dealing with the security from all the major oil and gas companies such as ONGC, GAIL, HPCL, BPCL and IOCL participated in the coordination meeting. DGP instructed the security agencies to develop the confidence in the people. “When it comes to security of vital installations, a lot depend on external intelligence. And people are the best source. People should be proactive and inform the police or the company, if they notice something suspicious.”

Mock emergency drills

“We have decided to hold mock emergency drills in coordination with all stake holders on a regular basis,” DGP further said.
