Stop Eating Nutella - France's Ecology Minister

I still wonder how environmental friendly, the European nations are. Anything that hampers the eco-friendliness will face the furor there. Setting an example to that, the France Ecology Minister Ségolène Royal today urges the nation to oppose Italian sweetened hazelnut chocolate spread - Nutella, despite its irresistible taste. Royal cites the reason as deforestation.

Europeans love the spread, with the French second only to the Germans as the world's top consumers of the paste.

The French have long had a love affair with the chocolate spread and it is the sweet and some say sickly breakfast of choice for many French school children. Around 100 million pots are devoured each year in France alone.

Indeed it's so popular that some French parents even tried to name their children Nutella, before being barred by a court.

The spread has proved controversial before, after France moved to introduce a so-called Nutella tax back in 2012, targeting any foods made with palm and other vegetable oils. The proposal was overturned soon after.

The Local has contacted Ferrero for a comment.

As discussed in the above paragraphs, Europe is very concerned about the environmental issues. Above 90% of its citizens use bicycles to roam around and this tells us their respect towards nature. (How about Hyderabad?)

But Many Nutella lovers object the Royal’s move saying that the environmental people are going nuts with their versions. They blamed the “Go Green” for scaring people with Ozone layer and all and make them believe that the Dooms day is around the corner. As per their statistics, the world is supposed to be ended at least a dozen times in the past.
