Free WI-FI in Hyderabad

IT minister KTR announced free WI-FI and already started it at Hussain Sagar initially. For 30 minutes, all the citizens can avail these services.

From Thursday, IT minister KTR will launch free WI-FI services at Hussain Sagar. BSNL is providing these services. Initially the service can be availed for 30 minutes for the complete 10 kilometers of the area, covering Lumbini Park, Necklace Road, Tank Bund and all the surrounding areas across these places.

Approximately 1800 to 2500 citizens can avail these services. BSNL made all the prior arrangements regarding this. These services are provided associating with Quad zen. The speed of the internet is going to be around 2 mbps to 20 mbps.

KTR will launch these services in the city on Thursday. If the idea is found successful, then there are plans to implement free WI-FI around the city too.

IT Minister KT Rama Rao held a review meeting on free Wi-Fi service with the service provider Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Quad Zen on Thursday. BSNL officials explained that the pilot services have already started in the Hussainsagar area. The officials informed the minister that about 1,800 to 2,500 people can log in into Internet at a time. After the free 30 minutes, the users have to pay for the services.

The minister asked BSNL to provide quality services to the people and expand the services to other areas in a phased manner. The officials said the services can be expanded to the entire city by laying about 4,800 km fiber net. IT secretary Harpreet Singh, BSNL and Quad Zen officials were present in the meeting.
