No to New Colleges in Telangana!

The Telangana government is planning to request the Union government not to approve new educational institutes or colleges with private partnership in the state as the government wants to improve the standards rather than the quantity. Accordingly, the government will write to the All India Council for Technical Education [AICTE] which has control of engineering stream and Pharma Council of India [PCI] regarding the approval of new colleges in the state. However, government will support the new institutes or colleges that would have the Centre or state's backing.

Every year about three lakh students are qualifying engineering but the skills are not par. So to improve the standards, the Telangana government is taking necessary measures. February 27th is the deadline to get an approval from AICTE but seems like no college is likely to get a recognition. Last year about 143 colleges were denied recognition citing the facility standards in colleges and this year too those colleges will be ignored for the same reason.

All in all, the government is very firm on the granting permission to private colleges. However, the government decision of appealing to AICTE and PCI is likely to get political pressure and the government is in a wait mode to see whether their decision would back fire or not. If they face no pressure, government will go ahead with its decision.
