TDP Survey Through IVR Reliable or Misleading?

How far the claims of the Telugu Desam Party President Chandrababu Naidu that he is making the public select the candidates for contesting in the coming up elections yields right results is not a point to be waited to be seen but it can very well be understood that it is a faulty one in the interests of TDP if it wants to get power in the state Andhra Pradesh State after carving out Telangana state from it!

Chandrababu says that it is for the first time in India such a technical help is taken in selecting the candidates to contest for TDP in the elections for the Assembly of AP and Loksabha.  It proves that he is for the latest techniques but not an old politician to stick up to old methods.  His words show that he is implementing democratic methods right from the stage of selecting a candidate to elect in the elections.

As per the details given by Chandrababu Naidu through media, candidates from each and every constituency will be selected by the people by (Interactive voice Response) IVR by selecting one of the 3 candidates by pressing 1, 2 or 3 or 0 if no one is acceptable of three.  They can also suggest a TDP candidate by pressing 4.  The candidates will be selected accordingly.  It applies for MLAs and MPs too.

It is just like an opinion poll.  The idea is that the candidates will win the race if they are selected by the same voters before actual poll.  This sounds very good.  The advantage it gives Chandrababu is that he will not be blamed for the rejection of a candidate.  And also the President of the party will not blamed of ignoring the seniors of the party and also doing injustice to the new comers.  When Ganta Srinivasa Rao belonged to Congress party joined in TDP at Visakhapatnam Prajagarjana program, senior leader of the TDP Ayyannapatrudu passed comments that hurt the feelings of Ganta and others joined on that day and embarrassed the TDP leaders including the Chief.  So that way it is good on the part of the TDP President Chandrababu to follow this method of selection.

But, there are problems in other areas most importantly in achieving the very goal that is getting power in the state.

About 1000 to 3000 people are questioned out of about two lakh people and TDP working members in a constituency.  It is imperative that TDP workers give priority to their leaders.  How do they know or vote for others coming from Congress party?

That way the IVR system followed at present may avoid a hard feeling among the candidates but the candidates selected by the people in the survey may not give the party an eligible candidate to win and to contribute to make the party win.

It may be a new method for TDP to introduce in the Country, but it is only one of the many methods of getting voters’ opinion.

It is also wrong to think that the IVR method is fool proof and gives winning candidate to TDP because only a sample survey will be done who are supposed to represent the voters at large.  This was proved in the past many times.
