Lokpal Bill Passed In Loksabha

Lokpal Bill is passed in Loksabha today. The bill was passed in Rajyasabha on Tuesday.

The Lokpal Bill introduced in the Loksabha for its review started debate on it with Kapil Sibal making introductory discussion on it. He said that the discussions have been going on in the Parliament and also outside. Kapil Sibal said that the select committee's suggestions are implemented in the bill and as such it should be reviewed again.

The opposition party BJP leader Sushma Swaraj said that the Bill should be viewed again before passing it. She complained that the Congress party is facing no trust motion from its own MPs.   She also complained that the Congress party made an undue delay in the matter.

Samajwadi party MPs walked out of the Parliament protesting against Lokpal Bill. The President of Samajwadi party Mulayam Singh Yadav said that the present bill is a dangerous one in which Prime Minister also is taken in to the purview of Lokpal. He opined that the PM should be made answerable only to the Parliament.

After the discussions are over the Speaker Meira Kumar conducted voice voting and declared that the Bill is passed.

The Bill is sent to the President of India for his approval. It becomes ‘Lokpal 2011’ Act with the seal of the President on it.

Anna Hazare supporters celebrates for Lokpal Bill Passed

Anna Hazare’s supporters celebrated it at the camp in Ralegan Siddhi where Anna Hazare had been observing hunger strike for Lokapal Bill. After hearing the news of its passing in Loksabha also Anna Hazare broke the hunger strike.  He thanked everyone who stood by his side in the fight for Lokpal Bill for the last two years. He said that it may not eradicate the corruption in the country totally but it gives a lot of relief to the people of India. He also thanked the select committee that suggested amendments to the Lokpal Bill. 

Anna Hazare expressed his desire that the Lokpal Bill should be enacted before elections.
