Final Judgment on Krishna Waters by Brijesh Kumar Tribunal

Brijesh Kumar Tribunal gave final judgment today on the Krishna waters distribution.  Excepting making it 1005 TMCs from 1001 on its own, the Tribunal has not considered any of the 14 amendments appealed by the State Government in 2010. The Tribunal said that the requests of the State will be heard by the authority appointed by the Center.

Experts say that the judgment of the Brijesh Kumar Tribunal is fatal to the State.  Because of the height increase of Almatti dam, the Krishna waters will reach 12 months late. They say that only Supreme Court can do justice to the State cancelling the Tribunal’s judgment.

Because of the final judgment of the Tribunal the projects taken up by the State with a cost of Rs.32000 crore with the surplus waters has become a question now as the projects cannot be beneficial now.

The judgment that is applicable till 2050 is benefitting the State of Karnataka but Andhra Pradesh is put at a great loss.

The counsel representing the State Sudarshan Reddy said that the State has no rights on the surplus water but only freedom to use. He said that the special leave petition is pending with the Supreme Court.  The Gazette on the Tribunal’s judgment will be released only after the leave petition gets Supreme Court’s judgment.  The Tribunal has nothing to do with the State if it is bifurcated.

TDP and CPI criticized the advocates that they failed in making the arguments strong enough to get a judgment in our favor. TDP also blames former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy who gave a letter to the Tribunal stating that the State does not need surplus waters.
