High Alert to Coastal Andhra

India Matereological Department has given high alert to Coastal Andhra that the depression is moving towards Rayalaseema and will reach Telangana to stay there for 24 hours but again will go to Coastal Andhra districts.

As per IMD, the coastal districts should not relax when the depression moves from there.  It will come back after a day again to drench the coastal areas.  That means the people living in low lying areas taking shelter in the rescue camps should not go back to their places immediately.  The authorities reviewing the flood hit areas and monitoring rescue operations should not stop their vigil.  Fishermen should not venture in to the sea immediately.

The high alert given by IMD is disheartening to the people living in coastal districts but phailin cyclone proved that the weather warnings should be taken seriously and be followed to reduce the loss to the loss of assets but not loss of life.

Agricultural produce in Guntur district alone was damaged in 134000 hectors.  Breaches happened to many tanks and canals.  Landslide and cutting of roads and railway tracks disrupted movement and also made tremendous loss to Government and private properties.  Many villages are marooned. Many became homeless.  At this point further rains after a lull of one day is not encouraging news.  But an alert at the right time reduces loss if it is followed.
