DMK leader MK Stalin arrested

DMK leader MK Stalin was arrested with over 1000 others from his party who have picketed the Sri Lankan Deputy High Commission protesting against the war crimes committed by the island nation today on Tuesday.

Big names from the party such as Dravidar Kazhagam leader K Veeramani, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi leader Thol Thirumavalavan were also arrested. The party leaders and workers marched from the Valluvar Kottam area to the Sri Lankan mission while raising slogans against the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa alleging war crimes against him. They also urged the Indian government to do justice to them.

Party chief M Karunanidhi hoped that the UNHRC's resolution against the Sri Lankan war crimes would be passed. However he also added that, "Our firm demand is that India should also cooperate on the issue", he said.

Karunanidhi warned that the Tamil Eelam Supporters Organisation would continue to fight for rehabilitation of Lankan Tamils. Yesterday several of the DMK leaders attempted picketing the high commission.

All the political parties have appealed to the government to take serious action against Sri Lanka and its army. In the war between rebel LTTE and the Sri Lankan Army several war crimes including innocent killings have surfaced. LTTE chief Prabhakaran's son, Balachandran allegedly was shot dead by the Sri Lankan army brutally drawing the ire of the world, UNHRC.

It is to be noted that there were several protests in Tamil Nadu after the pictures of Balachandran, the 12 year old son of Prabhakaran were leaked.
