Indian Army calls off new year celebrations

Indian Army has cancelled the new year celebrations at all its offices and cantonments  across the country as an ode to the Delhi rape victim who succumbed to injuries at a hospital in Singapore on Saturday. It may be noted that many private clubs too called off their celebrations in remembrance of the woman, who should have been among us welcoming the new year. The decision of  Indian Army has been welcomed by scores of people who have been expressing their solidarity with the bereaved family that lost Damini.

Notably, chief of the army, Vikram Singh along with his wife are scheduled to visit an Army Hospital on January 1. It has to be mentioned here that Indian Army every year celebrates new year grandly at all its cantonments. This year too arrangements were in place long back. However, the recent gang rape incident moved every Indian. Therefore, Indian Army called off the celebrations.
