Warangal town was gripped with tension in the early hours of the day with friction rising between two popular parties. In the early hours, YSR Congress party had staged a protest in front of the local TRS office. Later during the day, TRS activists reciprocated at the YSRC party office. After an initial altercation between the activists, emotions escalated on both sides.
The verbal duel turned into a free for all, while the TRS felt it as a prestige to show their dominance, the YSRCP was nowhere behind in safeguarding its presence.
The disturbances were due to the statements made by the two party leaders. Initially Konda Surekha of YSRCP expressed that Telangana could be possible only after the TRS clan commit suicide, as they were the main obstacles for the state formation. In retaliation the TRS supremo KCR lashed out at her and asked her to die first. The negative statements between the leaders led to the tussle.
However situation has been brought under control by the security personnel, who acted immediately. There were mild instances of lathi-charge by police and some activists are said to have received minor injuries. The crowds dispersed subsequently. (Wishesh AarKay)
