Former Congress MP, Subbirami Reddy has said that Visakhapatnam Congress MP Purandareshwari was his good friend. He even mentioned that it was he who welcomed Purandareshwari to contest from Vishakapatnam constituency. Also, he said he and Purandareshwari were working for the development of Visakhapatnam in their own ways. Further, Subbirami Reddy said he would contest for Visakhapatnam Lok Sabha constituency in case Congress high command directs him.

It may be noted that Subbirami Reddy is a veteran politician and film producer. His sanskrit film Bhagvadh Geeta won the national award. He was apparently the only contractor who received a gold medal from late prime minister Indira Gandhi for his contribution towards Nagarjunasagar dam. Subbirami Reddy was elected twice for Lok Sabha from Visakhapatnam.
