Hyderabad Airport turns 'Green'

The international Airport at Hyderabad is well acknowledged by globe trotters as an airport at par with its international likes. Now this airport gets acknowledged for its 'Green' initiatives. The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) gets ISO 14064 certification. This certification was issued after an independent audit conducted by Bureau Veritas. An official communiqué from the GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd (GHIAL), which operates the Airport, was issued on Monday at Hyderabad.

With this new feather in its cap, the RGIA can now boast of being the second airport in the country appreciated for the ‘Green’ initiative. Hyderabad becomes the second international airport in India and the third in Asia to get this certification.

The Release states that the airport successfully accredited its greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory including greenhouse gas emissions and removals for reporting years 2009 to 2011, according to the ISO 14064-1:2006 specification. Bureau Veritas conducted independent audit and issued the verification statement. The verification of GHG inventories helps RGIA in reducing its carbon intensity, which is carbon footprint per passenger or per tonne of cargo handled, cost of energy and meet GHG accounting international norms in aviation sector. RGIA is not just a Greenfield airport but a green airport primarily developed on eco-friendly concepts, said the statement.
