Sakshi gets 40Cr more government ads?

The ongoing media war between the Eenadu daily and the Sakshi daily, which are working as instruments in the hands of politicians, is very much evident for the people of the state. Supported by their media channels the war is more intensified. Looking at the war between the two, common man (only if one is unbiased)   realizes to what extent media can probe to reveal. Ethical war is permissible, but yellow journalism has to be condemned. Particularly we do not tag anything to the reports, we leave it the discretion of the common man.

Actually today, in particular, the discussion is about the recent controversy advocated by the Eenadu. As per the report `Sakshi daily received Rs 40 Cr more government advertisements when compared to Eenadu, when the late YS Rajasekha Reddy was in power.’ The daily went to detail the investigations of the CBI in the irregularity. As per the report, CBI questioned the concerned authorities, at that time in office and found out that as per instructions of the CM the ads were given to Sakshi.

While Sakshi countered the allegations citing the ABC circulation statistics that at that specified time Sakshi had a circulation of 12.19 lakhs (this was the first year of publishing). Eenadu, as per the circulation report, had only 11 lakhs. Hence the number of ads was given to Sakshi. Also the ad costs in Eenadu were three times approximately more than in Sakshi. Adding that if the ads were given to Eenadu it would have cost the exchequer more by another 20Cr.

Regarding `Sakshi getting ads in the first year of publishing itself,’ was quite amazing quoted Eenadu. Sakshi retorted that this was a common practice and even other Telugu dailies like Andhra Jyoti, Surya and Vaartha too enjoyed this privilege. Sakshi further posed a question to the CBI in its daily that why the Telugu Desam President N Chandra Babu Naidu was not questioned on this.

Reasons are unending and everyday a new melodrama unfolds with the morning editions. Unfortunately more than the major news these controversies take prominent space on the front page in these two dailies.  (With inputs from internet: AarKay)
