HC sends Emaar accused to CBI custody

The High Court today sent Emaar case accused Mr Vijayaraghavan and Mr Sunil Reddy for CBI custody for 5 days 3 days respectively.

The court ordered CBI to question them in the presence of their lawyers from 8 am to 6 PM daily and also conduct medical tests on them before shifting them to the Chanchalguda jail. The CBI approached the High Court seeking their custody after the special CBI court refused to send them to CBI custody.

Counsel for Vijayaraghavan Mr Daljith Singh complained to Justice KC Bhanu hearing the case that the CBI has grilled his client 33 times and have even used third degree measures to ferret out information from him. The CBI promptly denied the charge.

Meanwhile, the special CBI court at Nampally in Hyderabad adjourned to Feb 6 hearing on the bail petition of BP Acharya, accused number 1 in the APIIC-Emaar land scam. CBI filed a counter in the court opposing bail for Acharya. On hearing arguments of both sides, Judge Nagamaruthi Sarma adjourned the hearing. (JUBS)
