Pulivendula YSR Congress MLA Ms Vijayamma will continue the Odarpu Yatra in case party president YS Jaganmohan reddy is arrested in the illegal assets case.
Reports in a section of the press said that CBI is likely to arrest Jagan in January itself and the Enforcement Directorate may freeze the bank accounts of the Jagathi Publications, the publishers of the Sakshi daily owned by Jagan almost simultaneously along with Jagan’s arrest.
In such a case, Vijayamma will take over the party reins and also continue with the Odarpu Yatra from the point where Jagan abandons it.
The YSR Congress party leaders are also of the view that the arrest of Jagan will also prove as wrong the reports that Jagan has compromised with the congress leadership and promised to merge his party with it to avoid arrest.
Meanwhile, the congress party is putting up a brave face saying that the arrest of Jagan, whenever it happens, may not spoil the congress political fortunes as the next general elections are more than two and half years away from now.
“By the 2014 elections, Jagan’s influence will fade away and there won’t be any problems to the congress electoral victory,” said a senior congress leader. (JUBS)
